Harley Hahn's
Guide to Muds

Chapter 10...

Getting Along With People

You get along with people on a mud the same way you do in the outside world. If you are polite, fun to be with and easygoing, you will have no trouble making friends. Still, my experience is that, since a mud is far removed from the stresses of day-to-day life, you will find it easy to mellow out and to be cooperative.

Remember, the characters you see on a mud are not the same as the people behind the scenes. Of course, you don't expect an elf to be an elf in real life. However, it is altogether possible that the seductive young maiden you have been flirting with all evening is actually a balding, middle-aged male accountant from Fargo, North Dakota.

Once you get to know someone, you will be able to look behind the character and get a feeling for the real person. As time goes by, you may be in for a surprise or two. Although it may look as if the other people on the mud are hiding behind masks, you will come to find that most of the masks are actually mirrors.
