The Little Nipper's
The Story of
Hi. I am The Little Nipper.
The Little Nipper's Internet Clubhouse is a special Web site just for kids. Here is the true story of how it came to be...
I am 12 years old and I live with Harley. In fact, I was born in his closet, which is a good place for a cat to be born. (My birthday is April 6, in case you want to send a present.)
Harley and I work together. His job is to do the writing, and my job is to correct his mistakes.
I have a good job, because Harley doesn't make too many mistakes, so I get to play outside whenever I want. Most of the time, however, I lie next to Harley's computer, supervising. If you saw us working, it might look as if I were sleeping, but I am not. Every few minutes, I open one eye and check what Harley is doing. When I see a mistake or something that needs to be made better, I point to it with my paw. (Now you know why all of Harley's writing is so good.)
As you can see, The Little Nipper's Internet Clubhouse is the best section of the site. That is obvious. What you might be wondering is where did the idea come from? I'll tell you the story.
I mentioned earlier that I like to play outside. However, when the sun goes down, I have to go inside for the evening. If I don't, Harley worries about me. (There's nothing really to worry about, but you know how adults are.)
Anyway, one day I was late coming in. I had been out exploring and I found a really cool dead rat with a whole bunch of slimy green stuff all over it. As soon as I saw the rat, I realized it would be a great present for Harley. As a matter of fact, it was a week past his birthday, and I needed to get him something.
So I brought in the rat and put it on his pillow, where he would be sure to see it. (Harley is not very observant. If you want him to notice something, you have to put it right under his nose.)
Well, that got his attention, but not in a good way. For some reason I don't understand, he didn't like the rat. He put his hand over his mouth and made a funny noise. Then he threw the rat into the trash can. (Adults can be very strange.)
To make things worse, he got mad at me even more for staying out after dark. I tried to tell him I was playing hide-and-seek with a bunch of raccoons and I couldn't leave till the game was finished, but he didn't listen to me.
This bothered me, so I thought I would do something to make him happy. Late that night, after Harley had gone to bed, I went over to the computer and started working. I had a great idea. How about if I took all the children's stuff from the Yellow Pages book, made up a whole bunch of new stuff, and used it to create a brand new Web site, just for kids?
I worked all night and, in the morning, when Harley got up, everything was done.
"Wow," he said when he saw it. "This is so cool. A whole section of stuff just for kids."
Then he stroked his chin. "It's funny though, I don't remember doing it. I must have been very tired last night."
Later that day he called Lydia, who works with him, and told her all about the new section. She thought it was a great idea.
"But what are we going to call it?" she asked.
"How about Harley Hahn's Internet Clubhouse?" said Harley. (Harley is like that. He likes to name everything after himself.)
Lydia thought about it.
"I like the Internet Clubhouse part," she said, "but I really think we should name it after someone cute. After all, we do want the Web site to be as popular as possible."
"I guess you are right," said Harley.
And that is the story of The Little Nipper's Internet Clubhouse.
